- Its a running total for Isabella
A pair of marathon-running Hemsworth dads have raised hundreds of pounds
for our appeal.
Mick Cordall, 39, of Union Street, and Mick Tildesley, 36, of Haverlands,
ran in the recent Robin Hood half-marathon in Nottingham
They have so far raised £800 for Mr Tildesley’s three-year-old niece,
Isabella. Mr Tildesley said: “It was my first half-marathon and it was a lot
harder than I expected. I’m glad we raised so much money and I want to thank
everyone who supported us.”
Mr Cordall has been running for about 14 years. He said: “The atmosphere was
great and it was really busy with about 17,000 people there. I met Isabella
at a children’s party and thought it would be a good idea if we both ran
this one for her.”

- Paces School
Isabella continues to make excellent progress at Paces School. Thank you
to all our supporters for making this a reality!
23/06/2008 - Isabella's progress
Isabella has again been admitted to hospital with recurrent chest
problems.
In some
respects her condition has deteriorated this year and as a result, she is no
longer able to take any food or drink by mouth. Health wise, avoiding
recurrent chest infections remains the highest priority.
She
continues to attend Paces School twice weekly and is making good progress,
despite her recent illness. During the summer months, she will attend a 2
week intensive summer camp at Paces.
Looking
forward to the new term in September, we are delighted to report that she
has been granted a place at Paces School (subject to us meeting the tuition
fees of £21,000 per annum!)

28/02/2008 - Support the 'Every Disabled Child Matters' Campaign
Additionally I need to put further pressure on the council to sign up
for the “Every Disabled Child Matters” Charter. Its no great surprise that
Barnsley Council have yet to sign up and this maybe goes someway to explain
their disregard for families like us. The following link allows you to
compile an email to the councillor responsible for Children’s Services at
Barnsley Council.
Go to
http://www.edcm.org.uk/la_charter and take Action 2
28/02/2008 - Petition the Prime minister!
We are petitioning the prime minister to look into our ongoing dispute
with Barnsley Council over Isabella’s education provision.
Please take 2 minutes to sign our petition on the 10 Downing Street Website
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/LEAfight/
11/02/2008 - Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council
BMBC have formally declined our request for Isabella to attend Paces
School. The council state that this would not be an effective use of their
resources, despite there being little financial difference between funding
her education at Paces or Greenacre School. What do the council tax payers
of Barnsley think - let us know!
Barnsley Council do not even acknowledge Conductive Education to be an
option. Many other councils in the UK support Conductive Education (an
excellent example being Sheffield City Council).
Scope,
the charity for Cerebral Palsy fully supports Conductive Education. So who
knows best?
The odds
are stacked against us - so keep trying to "grind us down". We won't
give in...... we're from Barnsley too.

- Fundraising at Kendray Hospital, Barnsley
Members of staff at the hospital raised £140 over the Christmas period
by organising a "guess the weight of the Christmas Cake competition" and
also contributions from individuals in the catering department instead of
sending Christmas Cards.
06/01/2008 -
Fundraising at the South Yorkshire Joint Authorities
Members of staff from the Payroll/Admin team, Investments department,
Information Technology Unit and Sheffield & Rotherham District Offices chose not to send Christmas Cards this year. Instead
they have made a donation to our appeal.
Special
thanks go to I.S.
Maintenance Ltd for their kind donation.
Amy
Blakemore organised a Christmas Quiz raising £40.
Thank you to everyone for your generosity.
18/12/2007 - Cannon Hall Sponsored Walk
Staff at South Yorkshire Pensions Authority organised and took part in a
six mile walk on 17th November. The event, organised by Amy Blakemore and
Julie Peel was a great success. The walk started at 10am in the car park and
finished some six miles later, in the SAME car park!
In total,
30 colleagues, friends and family took part in the walk raising an amazing
£3,786.
