About Isabella

Isabella was born on Friday 8th April 2005 at Barnsley District General Hospital.

There were severe problems during the final stages of labour and she was effectively stillborn when delivered. After numerous attempts at resuscitation, she was ventilated for what became just over one week.

At 2 days old, Isabella was baptised because she was not expected to survive beyond that day. She carried on fighting and this has been very much the case ever since.

Isabella suffered severe brain injuries at birth. As a result, she is partially sighted with an overriding condition of arthetoid cerebral palsy. Autism is currently being assessed but has not officially been confirmed. Her multitude of illnesses has meant she has spent the majority of her life so far in Barnsley Hospital and Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Already she has been subjected to five operations and is currently tube fed due to an inability to swallow correctly, due to poor muscle tone.

Isabella suffers from significant developmental delay the effects of which are too numerous to list here. Needless to say, development wise, she’s the equivalent of an 8 month old baby - and this isn’t improving much with time.

Isabella requires "alternative" education (conductive education) to give her any chance of achieving what we all take for granted. Walking or standing, speaking or communicating in some other way. Our local council, Barnsley MBC, will not fund this education - our only hope is to try and raise the money with your help.

Despite numerous life threatening problems, Isabella has recently seen her third birthday. She has a life limiting condition and as such, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice kindly give us their fantastic support.

However she hasn’t stopped fighting and neither will we, her parents. Isabella has a lovely personality and we must do everything possible to maximise her potential.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. If you can help us, please get in touch.
